Re:      Transition of Service Delivery, Juvenile Dependency Representation in San Diego County

Dear Colleagues:

This past Friday, the Administrative Office of the Courts issued their notice of intent to award a three-year contract for the delivery of juvenile dependency representation in San Diego County to the Dependency Legal Group of San Diego (DLG), a non-profit public benefit corporation. I am writing to you today in anticipation of the transition of the active caseload from the current service provider to DLG.

Thousands of families are currently involved in the San Diego County Juvenile Dependency System and new cases are coming in daily. These families continue to need consistent, professional and dedicated legal representation to achieve a timely resolution of their issues. To that end, I encourage each of you who are currently practicing in our juvenile dependency courts to remain client-centered throughout the transition.

While this might seem like a good time to walk away from jobs that are ending, to take an impromptu vacation or suddenly develop ‘flu-like’ symptoms, the families that we serve need your dedication now more than ever. The judges need to avoid unnecessary delays in adjudicating these cases and need your help to control their calendars. The system only works if all of the professionals involved fulfill their roles. I am confident that, your integrity, work ethic, professionalism and cooperation will minimize the impact of the coming transition on your clients and the courts. DLG will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition for everyone involved.

The change in dependency representation providers has undoubtedly left you with difficult decisions to make about the future. I hope you seriously consider continuing your careers with DLG. In any case, I thank you for your time and look forward to the many exciting opportunities that lay ahead.
